BRIDGEPORT Salvage Work Continues

June 4, 2021

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla - Thursday, the crew boarded CAPT. TIBB and arrived offshore this morning to heavy seas, eliminating the possibility of safely conducting crane and dive operations.

The crew monitored the weather until 0900. Sea conditions were not improving and, with thunderstorms and lightning in the forecast, the salvage master made the decision to return to shore and send the FARRELL 256 and MEAGAN ANN into safe harbor.

The THOMAS DANN remains on location tonight.

Friday, the crew will depart the marina at dawn. The FARRELL 256 is scheduled to be on location shortly thereafter and will moor off the starboard side of BRIDGEPORT.

Dive operations are planned to make up rigging to the cargo hatches leaning against the port side. The crane will lift the hatch covers and place them on the seafloor.

Fittings to repair the salvage hatches have been fabricated and will be installed as time and conditions allow.

The health and safety of the community and responders plus the protection of the environment are the top priorities of the unified response.
